“Let’s just glass North Korea and be done with them!”
This comment on Facebook yesterday got my blood boiling. Is this really what we’ve come to?
“Glass North Korea…” Really? Have you thought this through? Do you really want to “glass” 25 million people whose only crime is being born on the wrong side of a man-made border? There’s a name for that. It’s called genocide.
Kim Jong-un is menace. Something will need to be done about him, but “glassing” North Korea is not the answer. Just because the United States could do it, doesn’t mean we should do it. “With great power comes great responsibility.” I pray God will give President Trump and our other leaders wisdom to make right decisions in this crisis.
At the same time, I find it despicable, when “Christians” dare to call for the destruction of millions of God’s children in the name of national security. “America first!” is their cry. Well, what about “Humanity first?”
Where did we get the mistaken idea American’s are somehow God’s chosen people, His new Israel? Bible prophecy in Daniel and Revelation paints a starkly different picture and Isaiah 34:2 warns in the last days the Lord will be angry with “all nations.” That includes the United States.
John 3:16 does not say God so loved America, but “…God so loved the WORLD…” He loved Jews and Gentiles, Russians and Africans, Koreans and Americans, so much that “… he gave his one and only Son, that WHOEVER believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We forget God says in Ezekiel 33:11, “I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.” He who sees a single sparrow fall to the ground and numbers the very hairs of our heads, finds no more pleasure in the death of a North Korean than he does an American.
When wars rage across our planet, millions go into the grave with no hope of a Savior, no knowledge of a God who loves them and who gave His Son for them. And God grieves. How then can we as Christians break His heart still further by calling for the destruction of millions for whom Jesus gave His life? That is a slap to the very face of God.
Remember with God there are no nations or races or genders. He loves us all, black or white, gay or straight, Korean or American, and He calls all of us to “Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die…?”
Christians are called to a higher standard. We are not called to “glass” our enemies, but to love them. (Matthew 5:44). We are called to “…proclaim good news to the poor…to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair..” Isaiah 61.
Jesus also called us “…to go and make disciples of ALL nations …” Mark 14:12. That includes North Korea. Well, it’s going to be pretty hard to baptize them if we nuke them, isn’t it?
Hatred separates people and destroys nations. But God has “… a more excellent way” – Love.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
“Glass” North Koreans? No!
Love them? Yes!
Pray for them? Absolutely!
And while we’re at it let’s pray for America – we need it!
Have a great day! And God bless America (and Korea too)!
